Why You Should Never Rule Out Black And White Baby Bedding

15th March 2011 by Babies No Comments

When decorating the nursery in preparation for their baby’s arrival parents tend to go for
quite bright colours in keeping with current trends.  This is in particular the case when parents are deciding in the colours of their baby’s bedding.  However, there is much to be said for bucking the trend and going for black and white in your newborn’s bed linen.

The sophisticated look

Bright colours and little cute animals aren’t a prerequisite for all nurseries.  This appears to be registering with more and more parents as we see the sophisticated black and white designs becoming more popular.  The number of different styles that are available is huge and encompasses toile, geometric and floral patterns.

Developmental aspect

Researchers have proven that the presence of complicated designs stimulates babies and helps to develop their visual skills.  This also gives them the confidence and desire to interact with visually appealing objects when they reach the stage of being able to grab and hold.  Obviously black and white next to each other offers a real contrast, which stimulates babies more than other colours would.

A theme for all

Black and white are seen as neutral colours in terms of gender, which is another plus for your baby’s bedding.  Using a black and white theme in the nursery means that no matter the sex of your child it will still suit them.  If you do want to add some gender related colour to the bedding or room in general then this is easily done after the birth with a pink blanket or a blue lampshade for example.

The frugal choice

Opting for black and white designs in your bedding can also prove to be a frugal choice.  The fact that black and white can go with so many other colours and designs means that it can be easily updated.  This means that as your baby gets older and changes you can cheaply change the decor of their room without having to give it a complete overhaul.
